KABC Endowment Fund
Make a Planned Gift
Harriet Nehring became the first Executive Director of Kansans for Improvement of Nursing Homes (now Kansas Advocates for Better Care/KABC) in the mid-1970’s. During Harriet’s 15 year tenure, she cared for her father, who had a form of dementia. When Harriet retired from KABC, she enjoyed retirement with her husband, Earl, who had always supported Harriet’s work. Little did they know how much Harriet herself would benefit from KABC’s work. Harriet began having memory problems and was diagnosed as likely having Alzheimer’s Disease. Earl became her caregiver at home and after she became a resident of a licensed care home. Things had come full circle. In 2005, Earl became actively involved as a KABC Board Member and recognizes the value of KABC’s mission first hand.
The Nehrings are among the original KABC Endowment “founders”. Earl maintains his membership at the “Cerfer” level and encourages everyone he talks with to support KABC however they can. When Harriet passed away in 2007, Earl & his family named KABC as recipient for memorial gifts and created the Harriet Nehring Memorial Fund, which helps us continue to advance improvements for the care of elders in facilities and at home. In addition, Earl has designated a gift in his will that will help assure the sustainability of KABC.
Did you know…that by including a charitable gift in your will or estate plan, you can help continue KABC’s mission to advocate for quality long-term care well into the future? You can continue to make a difference in the lives that follow. Your gifts help create a real change for a better world long after your lifetime. Our work, and the lives we touch, can be your legacy.
Consider leaving a special gift to KABC and become a valued Legacy Society member. If you have already named KABC in your estate plans, we want to recognize you, too!
